Configuration Tips

ALL BTV MACHINES
  • DISABLE Windows Automatic Updates
  • INSTALL VNC server to enable remote administration
  • CONFIGURE NIC settings (port speed & duplex) consistently on all machines; playback stuttering can result from mismatches
  • DISABLE drive indexing and AV scanning
  • BACKUP the system drive (C:) using a full-partition backup tool periodically, including before and after all major upgrades
BTV SERVER
  • ASSIGN the server a static IP address
  • DISABLE Windows System Restore feature on all but the system (OS) drive
  • CAPTURE recordings on separate physical disk drives from the system (OS) drive
  • FORMAT video drives as NTFS using 64k clusters; more efficient for large (HD) video files
  • DISABLE drive indexing, spyware and AV scanning on video drives; run a manual scan periodically if you must
  • CONFIGURE the system drive (C:) with a fixed amount of virtual memory; none on video drives
  • FEED your server clean, regulated power via a quality UPS: it not only protects your hardware, it helps ensure you don't miss any recordings!
BTV LINK CLIENTS
  • DISABLE Windows screensaver
  • CONFIGURE automatic logon for the BTV user
  • ADD "/networkclient=<IP_address_of_BTV_Server>” to BTV3DShell.exe shortcut in Startup folder
  • ADD "FSExitOption=0" in Settings.xml to remove "Exit ViewScape" from ViewScape menu
