Food Luaus are very fun and I have two to recommend: Old Lahaina Luau is THE luau to do in Hawaii. It
is often booked solid so if you want to go, be sure to book well in advance. I can help with that. www.oldlahainaluau.com Another that I like a lot is the luau at the Maui Prince in Makena, south of Wailea. It is held outdoors at sunset. The
atmosphere is casual and fun. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 pm. http://princeresortshawaii.com/maui-luau.php
Gazebo
Restaurant at Outrigger Napili Shores—only open for breakfast and lunch, 7:30 am to 2 pm. If you don’t want to wait in line
too long, be there early. You can look at the view. Great pancakes! Located on Lower Honoapiilani Road a few miles
north of Ka’anapali.
Honolua Store at Kapalua Resort—Open at 6 am for breakfast. Serves good island style breakfast for reasonable
prices. Takeaway or eat at picnic tables on the veranda.
Fun Dragon's Teeth
Makalua-puna Point,
Kapalua West Maui
Makalua-puna Point was created from one of the last lava flows on Maui. However, the lava here is a little different
from the rest of the lava on Maui - it is much lighter, denser, and fine-grained. The wind sweeping over the point caused the lava
to harden in an upward fashion. The jagged points of this formation look like dragon's teeth, thus the name. Hundreds of years of
salt spray has whitened the lava and even eroded holes through some areas.
Good to know: FREE, paved parking is located off Office
Road. The hike to the point is approximately 5 minutes along the edge of the golf course. Honokahua Preservation Site is halfway to
the point on the right side of the path. Wear sturdy shoes when walking on the lava point, as the area is rocky and uneven. Windy
area - no facilities or water available. Good view of Oneloa Bay from the left side of the point.
Iao Valley State Park—located in
Central Maui, best to go in the earlier morning for viewing without cloud cover. Some nice walking trails with spiffy photo
ops. Easy parking if you get there when there isn’t a crowd. Lots of bloody history here, but, hey it’s Hawaii, and that’s
the way it was! www.hawaiistateparks.org/parks/maui
Whaling
Museum -- Lahaina—This is a great free museum about the history of whaling, which had a huge impact on this island. Downtown
Lahaina so you can do it while others shop or as a break from shopping.
Holy Ghost Church--Beautiful church in upcountry Kula.
Built in 1894 with the help of Portuguese immigrants to Hawaii. Nicknamed the "Wedding Cake" church because of its unusual octagonal
design. Magnificent, recently restored interior. Loved the cemetery here and the inscriptions on the headstones! These
folks knew how to remember their family members
